Living Hawaiian Treasures

Living amidst us in the Verde Village is a person honored as a Living Treasure of Hawai’i!

And his wife, a native Hawaiian, has promoted Hawaiian culture here through Hula dance classes, Hawaiian language classes, and much more for over 20 years.

Amidst all the people who could be considered Verde Village treasures, we highlight them this month because of their annual fundraiser Hula Show and Hawaiian Culture Event on Saturday November 22nd.

Hawaiian Cultural Scholar B. Kaʻimiloa Chrisman, M.D. has been named a Living Treasure of Hawaiʻi by the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaiʻi for 2026.

What this honor means is he is recognized as an individual whose life exemplifies excellence and contribution to the community and Hawaiian culture.

Kaʻimiloa joins an esteemed list of past recipients who have helped shape and preserve the culture and spirit of Hawaiʻi.

You can hear Kaʻimiloa speak in person at the 20th Annual Hōʻike (Hula Exhibition Show) on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Phillip England Center for the Performing Arts, 280 Camp Lincoln Road in Camp Verde.

Doors open at 12:30 PM, and the event begins at 1:00 PM with Kaʻimiloa’s captivating cultural presentation exploring old-time Hawaiian life and the history behind Apple TV+’s Chief of War.

The presentation will be followed by beautiful hula performances representing each of the Hawaiian Islands, led by Kumu Hula Kēhau Chrisman.

Before the show, browse Hawaiian-themed treasures at the Hālau Store or bid on one-of-a-kind items in the Silent Auction. Proceeds benefit Aloha ʻĀina o Hawaiʻi, their nonprofit dedicated to preserving and teaching Hawaiian culture.
